How To Deep Clean Your Heavy Clothes

How To Deep Clean Your Heavy Clothes

Washing heavy clothes, like jackets, blankets, or thick sweaters, requires a bit more attention to ensure they get cleaned properly without damage. Here’s a simple breakdown:

  1. Check Care Labels: Always start by reading the care instructions on the label. This will tell you if special washing methods or temperatures are required for the fabric.
  2. Pre-Treat Stains: If there are any visible stains, use a stain remover or a bit of detergent to treat the stains before wash.
  3. Separate Fabrics: Wash heavy clothes separately from lighter garments to ensure that the heavier items have enough space to get cleaned thoroughly.
  4. Cold or Warm Water Wash: Most heavy fabrics should be washed in cold or warm water to prevent shrinking or damaging the material. Hot water may cause fabrics to lose their shape or softness.
  5. Use a Heavy-Duty Cycle: For bulky items, select the heavy-duty or bulky item cycle on your washing machine. This setting provides a stronger wash for thicker fabrics.
  6. Don’t Overload the Washer: Avoid overloading the washer to give your heavy clothes plenty of room to move around, ensuring they get a thorough clean.
  7. Dry Carefully: Air drying is often the best option for heavy clothes. If you need to use a dryer, set it on a low heat or delicate cycle to prevent shrinkage or damage.
  8. Reshape After Drying: After drying, gently shake or fluff up your heavy clothes to restore their shape and ensure they retain their fullness.
